FAQs
Do you have a specific question you’d like answered? You’re always welcome to call our office and ask our friendly staff directly, but if you’re in a bit of a hurry or simply like to do your reading before taking your queries face to face, we’ve typed up answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. Give them a read through and let us know if you still have more questions!
How do I get emergency dental care?
First, call our office right away! We’ll assess your situation over the phone and help you make a timely appointment. Our office is open on Saturdays as well, so if you have a weekend dental emergency, you can still reach us for urgent dental care.
If you’re experiencing a life-threatening emergency, however, call 911 immediately. While we would like to be able to help, we don’t have the resources necessary for these types of emergencies.
What is the best way to find a dentist who does dental implants?
There are a couple of different ways to find a good implant dentist near you. The first is to check their bio for advanced training with this treatment. There are many advanced training programs across the US, like the University of Toronto implant Residency Program that Dr. Mayank Patel attended.
Another is to check out the dental implant page on the dentist’s website to see if they offer in-house services for the entire treatment process. If they do, chances are they know what they’re doing!
Can I receive sedation for my dental appointment?
Certainly! At Meadowvale Family Dentistry, we offer IV sedation, which is administered intravenously (through a shot). Its relaxing effects start quickly, and you’ll begin to feel sleepy or drowsy. While IV sedation is an effective sedative, note that it does not “put you to sleep.” You’ll be conscious enough to respond to simple instructions and questions during your treatment – though sometimes patients do end up falling asleep because of how relaxed they are!
Because it is administered intravenously, IV sedation may not be right for everyone. Please let us know in advance if you think this treatment would help you have a more positive experience, and we’ll consult with you to ensure your safety and comfort.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Many different situations “count” as a dental emergency, such as:
- Toothaches
- Chipped, cracked, or otherwise damaged teeth
- Extreme dental sensitivity
- A knocked-out tooth or lost restoration
- Loose teeth
- Jaw pain
- Having something stuck between your teeth
Basically, if you feel you need treatment as soon as possible, we’d most likely consider your situation an emergency. When you call us over the phone and describe the problem, we can help you assess the urgency of your situation and arrange for a timely appointment.
How often should I visit the dentist?
Biannually, preferably every six months! We and other dental professionals recommend this timeline because it allows us to check on your oral health on a regular basis. The sooner oral conditions are caught, the easier they are to treat. Plus, while you’re here, we’ll also eliminate plaque and tartar build up that can’t be scrubbed away with your toothbrush. It’s all a part of looking after your oral health!
